High Point, NC (April 2009)

Take a look at the new American made lamps coming from Shady Lady and you may have to look twice. “We are expanding and broadening our horizon with our new lines,” says Shady Lady President, Susie Morter.
The company, known mostly for their Rustic, Coastal and Woolrich lighting, is pushing the limits into new areas of design, experimenting with multiple finishes, fabrics and materials. “We’ve always had the capability and talent to create different styles, but it wasn’t until recently that we decided to really go forward with fresh and exciting ideas that allow us to design for a more contemporary and traditional market.” Two new lines, Urban Renewal and Villa, will show off three or four collections each to market attendees.
The Urban Renewal Line includes table and floor lamps as well as chandeliers and wall sconces. As the title suggests, this line is all about creating a modern twist on big city living. Simple forms and patterns borrowed from nature with iron and ceramic are used to create the bases while the shades consist of drum and rectangle shapes utilizing an array of bold fabrics. The colors in this line range from chocolate and espresso browns to pistachio and gold along with different hues of blue.
Elements, the most recent collection added to the Urban Renewal Line, combines a sturdy iron framed base and a component representative of nature; either a honeycomb patterned wire sheet or a panel of white maple. Available in table and floor lamp styles, this collection demonstrates the rugged simplicity captured when man made structures collide with natural elements.
The second line, Villa, draws from classic traditional European style. With graceful lines meeting playful embellishments, this line consists of table and floor lamps, wall sconces, chandeliers and candle holders, all manufactured using powder coated iron and intermixing ceramic pieces for an elegant finish. The rich color palette includes warm yellow and creams, plum and paprika with a variety of earthy browns. The shades utilize crewel tapestry and other textured fabrics on drum and square forms.
One collection from the Villa Line, Rotonda, includes three table lamps, each made up of round vessel ceramics resting atop an iron scrollwork base and finished off with intricate Crewel and fabric shades. This combination of earthenware with involved natural forms and patterns creates an elegant, sophisticated look sure to bring a touch of Tuscany to any room.
